The Divine Wants Us To Enjoy Our Bodies
As I was writing PRESENCE Recognizing the Divine in Your Everyday Life, I came upon some ideas that seemed to form a foundation for my experience of the Divine. I called these philosophical and spiritual ideas, Concepts. Currently there are 22 concepts that have become the framework upon which PRESENCE is built.
Let’s explore the seventh concept, The Divine wants us to enjoy our bodies.
Have you ever had the feeling that your physical body was in perfect harmony with movement? Our bodies are certainly a favorite thing from the Divine. I am so low on the athletic scale that my constant fear in high school was that I would be the last one picked for the team in gym class. So, when I picked up tennis in my late twenties, it was remarkable in itself that I looked into something that involved sneakers and aerobic breathing.
I liked it. I even liked it a lot, and I didn’t stink at it. I met fun people and looked forward to going into league playing. I took lessons, paid for equipment, and learned a game I had never played. That happened again when I had to get in shape for back surgery, and out of desperation I started going to a water aerobics class. Again, this was something I had never done. I wasn’t horrible at it, and I liked it. It made me feel healthy and alive.
What have you found that fits your body just right and allows you to experience the harmony of movement in your body? Was it a dance? Walking? Kickboxing? Strength training?
Your body is a temporary vessel that allows your soul to have Earthly experiences. We do have our issues with our bodies -- from being worried about how they look, to taking good care of them, to using or abusing them. Perhaps remembering that the Divine wants us to enjoy our bodies can help remind us how to accept them as a sacred gift
