A POWERFUL FRESH APPROACH TO SPIRITUALITY -The Language Of God
As I was writing PRESENCE Recognizing the Divine in Your Everyday Life, I came upon some ideas that seemed to form a foundation for my experience of the Divine. I called these philosophical and spiritual ideas, Concepts. Currently there are 22 concepts that have become the framework upon which PRESENCE is built.
We are exploring the fourth concept, God speaks to us in a mysterious language we can learn. God speaks in a unique language. Though the Divine speaks in a language almost foreign to us, it invites our understanding. Learn to recognize this language of God. It can be soft and gentle or harsh and loud, full of symbols and meaning, and it speaks to you all the time. It may come to you in chance meetings, opportunities, words, images, impactful events, stories, recurring things, dreams, joyous favorite pleasures, and any number of mysterious coincidences.
In the language of God, symbols have meaning. Listen for the language of God and understand it in ways that will be so personal and pure that there is no doubt that the Light is abundantly present.
Maybe we don’t know how to listen to the language of God. Perhaps we once knew and then forgot. Then, there’s the problem of language. Can you understand a foreign language? We learn nonverbal sound messages – a car horn, ambulance siren, ice cream truck bell. Perhaps we don’t know what to listen for. A bird expert can pick out the song of just one bird, where the untrained ear might not be able to distinguish that sound from the many singing birds.
Perhaps we are afraid to listen to God. Are you afraid God might ask you to do something you don’t want to do? God might ask big, dangerous things. Can you realize God loves you so much that you wouldn’t be asked to do something you don’t want to? Or are you afraid you will listen and there will be nothing there?
You can read more about the first four concepts in this series of articles. They are explored in “Looking for Something” -- Chapter 1 of PRESENCE Recognizing the Divine in Your Everyday Life. As you consider the first four concepts, reflect and continue to ponder. How comfortable are you in the undefined realm of accepting that God is a mystery? Have you had a Divine feeling or encounter that you considered a direct connection from or with God? When do you feel God’s presence? When do you feel God’s absence? How does God communicate with you?
