How Can The Divine Seed A Place For Change To Grow?
I was happily in NYC this past weekend, visiting a cherished friend and having a wonderful time with her, her husband and her daughter, going to really fun places, seeing art, going to museums, and having yummy meals out. It was great. However, the outstanding take-away was somber.
The Whitney museum showcased photographer Dawoud Bey. One of his displays was in a small room with about 10 pairs of fairly large photos. Each pair consisted of a young person in one photo and an older person in the other -- posed exactly the same, in the exact same setting. The series was titled The Birmingham Project, reflecting the 1963 bombing of a Birmingham Alabama church in which children were killed.
The children in the photos were the same age as the children who were killed, the adults in the photos were the age that the children would have been today if they hadn't been killed. It was most powerful. Please connect with this link if you would like to listen to the interview with the artist, and see some of the photos.

It got me to thinking about seeding change. I often wish for the magic wand kind of change resulting in POOF!! I'm changed. But I can tell after a lifetime of trying and failing, that it is not the way of the Divine to make such magic happen. We are slow, aren't we? Slow to change, slow to understand, sometimes slow to feel. How can I engage with Divine love and presence to create a change in our huge world, or in just my tiny one? Perhaps for me, this Dawoud Bey exhibit was the seed to reconfirm whatever will come next in my ability to help love replace intolerance, help truth replace conspiracy, and help justice replace deceit. How can the Divine connect with you to seed the change you seek?
