IS THE DIVINE OBLIVIOUS?
Ob·liv·i·ous /əˈblivēəs/
adjective
not aware of or not concerned about what is happening around one.
I’d like to introduce you to my boyfriend of 4 years, Rob. One of the things that makes him dear to me is that he seems to be oblivious to my faults. Or maybe it’s just that he doesn’t say anything about them? Anyway, it is a wonderful characteristic. Except. When it comes to everyday tasks, like not putting the wooden spoons in the dishwasher or not putting my alpaca socks in the dryer, his being oblivious can become very frustrating.
I love the idea of Grace. That the God of my understanding extends Grace to us, no matter what, is such a loving act. Do you think the gift of Grace is because the Divine is oblivious to our shortcomings? Or instead, that even with being fully aware, the love from the Spirit is so powerful that no matter how badly we stumble, love prevails? The Bible reference about God knowing the number of hairs on our heads is just a wonderful image. So if the Divine is so precise about that, it’s not likely we receive Grace because God didn’t notice. It’s because we are loved and accepted in a way that transcends everything, always.
