How Spirituality Helps Depression
Depression is so much more than a bad day, tough times, or grief and loss. It is more like a heavy dark cloud that sometimes comes on so gradually that you don’t fully realize it until you feel like you are in a black hole that you can’t escape. In this article I will dive into how spirituality helps depression.
Occasionally you might anticipate the possibility of depression if you have been there before and you start feeling those similar warning signs. Or sometimes a constant, nagging negativity becomes too much to manage. However depression may present itself, it is weighty on the body, mind, and soul.
I have counseled many people with various kinds of depression, and no matter how serious and painful the experience, I believe they can get to the place where they will get better. Spirituality helps.
Open Up To The Divine
Being partnered with the Divine is a beginning. Depression feeds on you thinking that you are alone, yet there is divine energy constantly and abundantly with you. Open up to the presence of the Divine’s abundant love. You don’t have to dig yourself out of the depths all by yourself. I once had to trudge through self-doubt so thick I couldn’t see the other side at all. So I asked the Divine to show me an open door if I took one step. And it happened. I believe God makes the food available for the birds, but doesn’t throw it into the nest for them. Even if it is the tiniest of steps I can take – maybe a thought, a generous act for another, just making myself stop even one negative thought – I will do that one tiny step knowing I will experience the presence of the Divine helping with the next move.
Realize Help Is All Around You
Realize that you have the presence of angels surrounding you at all times. Let them in, because they love you and want you to be safe and happy. Don’t think so? The Bible mentions angels between 270 and 300 times – depending on how you count! That is a lot of times for something that you may doubt. Traditional religions may not even mention angels. Yet this can be an area of spirituality that can be the turning point in your life and can help to begin lifting depression. Talk to the angels, ask for their help, envision them lifting that heavy dark cloak from your shoulders.
Above all, if your depression weighs so heavily that you are on empty and cannot even lift an eyelash to feel movement, please call the hotline to talk to someone who might just be sent by your angel 800-273-8255
