The 23rd Psalm: Green Pastures, Still Waters, Restored Soul

IMG_0498.JPEG

I really love the 23rd Psalm, and I love saying it using the old King James Version English words.

Here is this delightful image: The shepherd... maketh me to lie down in green pastures, leadeth me beside still waters, and restoreth my soul.

Sometimes I do a self-guided meditation, closing my eyes, letting go of the stuff of my brain, and sending a movie or video into my mind's eye and just visualize being in a beautiful warm day, laying in cool grass beside a lovely pond. Sometimes that pond is instead, a stream or creek, with quiet waters flowing gently. The choice of pond or creek depends on my visual mood. As I sink more deeply into this vision, I feel my body melting into the refreshing coolness of the soft grass as I am gazing into the water. I begin to feel that gently presence of the Divine. It is so peaceful.

My soul. I wonder about how my soul becomes restored. I like to imagine a loving hand being laid on my heart and having the energy of the Spirit pour into me. If my soul was forgotten, it now becomes immediately present. I give up my body and my mind and feel only the energy of my soul coming alive. The shepherd is restoring my soul, and I am whole again.

Perhaps you can try this image from the 23rd Psalm in reflection when you need a moment, as you are reminded of the kindness and caring of the Divine which is for you always.
