Rising To The Occasion

Do you think it is too frivolous to pray for stuff like this? This kind of thing doesn’t seem to rise to the occasion of mentioning it to God…

The Practice Of Compassion

To a greater or lesser degree we all have struggle and sorrow, loss and pain. Yet we long for kindness, understanding, and freedom from fear.

Read Those Signs and Weep?

Hello from Delaware. I've been here three days. It all started after a snow/ice storm that delayed my movers arriving to the house by a critical day. Then a threat of a failed settlement because the inspector's approval wouldn't load on the county website. Then a freak snowstorm that left my new driveway icy, deliveries not made, shall I go on? I can list all the little signs that have been thrown on my path. But what do they mean?

Moving

Moving

I am moving. Moving into the unknown and moving away from what I have loved for over six years. On the surface, the idea of a mother and her twenty-something daughter living together sounds fraught with problems, yet when my daughter was 27 and her son was only 5, we did just that. It has been the happiest time of living I have ever had.

Life and Death

I was in Thailand about two years ago and experienced some time with a Buddhist monk. He expressed his life philosophy essentially by asking, “why wait until you die to experience Heaven, when you have the ability to experience it right here, right now?” He believed in Heaven on Earth. What if he is right? What if we are meant to rediscover what our soul already understands and has experienced.

What New Things in the New Year?

We love new things. New shinny things. It lets us shed the old, worn out, no good, useless (or worse yet, harmful) things of the past to make way for something different that we have either never had before, or we want to try again as if it is new. Ahhh. Such a good feeling.

Choosing to Surround Yourself with Joy

I have been with a group for many years. The group is dying. The people are getting tired -- all of them -- they are not being refreshed with those who are new, rested, and energetic. The group is dwindling in size. It's getting quieter but when there is sound, it's the sound of critical disappointment in how things are going.

Friendships and the Fun Factor

I love having friends. They are fun, they provide a partner in adventure, expand a loving feeling, give such caring nurture and joy, and expand my spiritual energy into another person in a way that multiplies all the goodness of being connected. For me, they are a manifestation of Divine presence that bursts out with all the bells and whistles!

When can you feel the presence within guiding you?

When can you feel the presence within guiding you?

I can remember when I was about 12 that I was so confident in my bicycle riding that I could take my hands off the handle bars and guide the bike with the subtle movement of the connection between my body and the bike. The internal contest was, how long could I do this automatic, no-touch steering before I had to grab the handle bars back again to avoid crashing. It was thrilling, yet dangerous to let go of what I had been perfecting for many years by then-- controlling the ride and the direction.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Which would you rather do -- fall into a cactus plant, or get bitten by a spider? How do you make a decision when both choices have serious drawbacks? How can you open yourself up to the presence of the Divine and feel Godly influence or spiritual direction when your choices simply leave you uncertain of the outcome either way you go, and either could be a disaster?

Surrounded by The Light

I am standing in the eye of a hurricane and feel the swirling of the dangerous, tumultuous winds around me, knowing that once the eye passes, I will be vulnerable to the unknown storm. I am in such a place as I contemplate the swirling of multiple transitions. Mostly, with the book PRESENCE coming out, I am about to step into a spotlight I have shied away from most of my life. My spirituality and my path have been private.

Divine Encounters

It has been a mostly quiet time for writing over the last two years. I don’t know if it’s me or the topic, but most people don’t ask me about it. “How is the book coming?” “What is it like to be writing a book about a person’s spiritual path?” “How are you?” “How has this process affected you?” Nope, I don’t hear those questions. So I just keep going quietly and yet, with the book actually being so close to being an actual book, I’m anticipating some kind of change to that quietness.
